Colorado Pool Code Requirements
Colorado regulates public and semi public swimming pools and mineral baths under 5 CCR 1003 5 through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Colorado pool rules cover design, construction, operation, maintenance, water treatment, fencing, showers, toilets, testing equipment, and overall health and safety standards for regulated pool facilities.
Colorado also requires public and semi public pools to meet ongoing sanitary standards for operation. Pool water must be automatically and continuously disinfected, water testing equipment must be provided, and the water must remain clear enough that the main drain openings are clearly visible from the deck. Colorado also requires each public or semi public pool to have on staff or under contract a current Certified Pool Operator, Aquatic Facility Operator, or other approved certification program, and pool operating records must be maintained.
