North Dakota Pool Code Requirements
North Dakota regulates public pool facilities through the North Dakota Administrative Code. State rules require pool water to be maintained with sufficient clarity so the main drain or a six inch black and white disk at the deep end is clearly visible from the pool deck. North Dakota also requires continuous disinfection of pool water, with a minimum free chlorine residual of 1 milligram per liter maintained in the water at all times.
North Dakota also requires pool owners and operators to keep operating and maintenance records. Daily records must include pH, disinfectant residual, and temperature, along with other pertinent operational and maintenance data, and those records must be retained for at least 3 years. For lodging properties, water recreation facilities including swimming pools, spas, and water slides must be designed, constructed, and maintained to protect the health and safety of guests, and they must be licensed and inspected by the applicable regulatory authority and comply with all state and local requirements.
