Wyoming regulates public pools and spas under the Wyoming Swimming Pool and Spa Health and Safety Act and the Wyoming Department of Agriculture pool rules. In Wyoming, a public pool or spa must be licensed, the license must be renewed annually, and the facility must be operated in compliance with state health, safety, and water quality requirements. The Department of Agriculture or a local health department can inspect the facility, and each licensed public pool or spa must receive at least 1 inspection per year.
Wyoming also requires pool operators to be knowledgeable about proper pool and spa operation. The Wyoming Department of Agriculture states that all pool operators must be trained and knowledgeable in pool operation and maintenance, and a Certified Pool Operator, or equivalent, must be on staff or under contract to oversee the pool.
For day to day operation, Wyoming’s published pool requirements include approved plans before construction, proper circulation and filtration, automatic disinfectant feeders, required lifesaving equipment, visible signage, daily water quality logs, and required water testing. The Department of Agriculture’s basic requirements also state that pool water should be maintained at 1 to 10 ppm chlorine, pH of 7.2 to 7.8, total alkalinity of 50 to 250 ppm, temperature of 70°F to 104°F, and clear enough water to see the drain grate design in the bottom of the pool.
Wyoming also requires physical safety measures around the pool. The Department of Agriculture’s basic list says outdoor pools must be enclosed with at least a 4 foot high enclosure with a self closing, self latching, lockable gate. The same guidance also requires lifesaving equipment and visible pool information signage near the pool.
Wyoming Pool Phone Code Requirements
Wyoming’s current pool rules require that a telephone be available on the premises of all public pools, spas, and similar installations, and emergency rescue phone numbers must be posted in view of the telephone. The rule shown on the Wyoming Department of Agriculture site does not say the phone must be a landline, and it also does not appear in the state rule language I reviewed to require that the phone be mounted at the pool itself. It does require a phone on site and visible emergency numbers posted with it.
